Biological Research and Background
Choanoflagellate feeding behavior in locating marine snow
Evolutionary Biomechanics
Koehl Lab, UC Berkeley, Fall 2016- Spring 2017
Some morphs during the lifecycle of the choanoflagellate species S. Rosetta have been observed to follow pH gradients in laboratory experiments. This work was a continuation of those experiments. During the 2016-2017 academic year, I assisted Dr. Mimi Koehl by designing lab experiments to test whether these particular morphs of S. Rosetta would seek out biofilms grown from local seawater. The study is still underway.
Survey of Taxa Diversity During the Late Ordovician Mass Extinction
Evolutionary Paleoecology, Senior Thesis
Finnegan Lab, UC Berkeley, 2016
Compared to some of the other mass-extinctions throughout geologic history, little is known about the Late Ordovician Mass extinction. For my senior thesis, I conducted a point-count study on hundreds of samples from Anticosti island in Canada. The survey looked at species turnover, density, and diversity. Final computational analysis is still pending. The study was conducted under the direction of Dr. Seth Finnegan.
Microbial PRECIPITATION of Calcium Carbonate
Microbial biophysics, sedimentology
Mississippi State University, Summer 2014
Over the summer of 2014, I assissted Dr. Kirkland with a continuing study of microbial precipitation of calcium carbonate.
Scientific Illustration in the Padian Lab
Scientific Illustration, Comparative Biology, Morphology
Padian Lab, UC Berkeley, 2013-2015
I assisted Dr. Kevin Padian with several Illustrations for two papers- one concerning the development of flight in primitive bats, and another on the evolution of crocodilian skull morphology.
